Dues

We are currently training at Penn State University with Penn State Shotokan. There are no dues. This page details our previous policy.

To cover expenses related to insurance and club membership dues, we collect individual dues from members each month.  Please note that the club instructors do not get paid to teach.  All of the money collected goes to cover club expenses, and any extra collected will be used to purchase equipment for the club or to help those who cannot afford dues.  If you attend any trainings within a given month, you are expected to pay dues for that month.

Monthly dues are as follows.  Dues can be paid at any point during the month.  If you choose, you can also pay for multiple months at once (for example, if you want to pay for a whole semester at once).  You can pay with cash, or make checks payable to "Kim Baran."

Starting in May 2016, the dues structure will be as follows:
New Members - First month is free to try out the club
Monthly Dues - $5/month

The costs are calculated based on current costs and current club membership.  These rates will be re-evaluated periodically and adjusted as necessary.  The best way to lower the cost for each of us is to recruit new members into the club!

If you are having financial difficulty and cannot afford dues, please contact Sensei to discuss options.  We do not want finances to prevent anyone from training, so if the club dues are an issue we can try to figure something out so that you can continue to train.

A record of income and expenses is maintained on the finances page.
